Ingredients
Onions, butter, olive oil, garlic, sugar, white wine, beef broth, thyme, bay leaf, baguette, Gruyère cheese, Parmesan, salt, pepper.
Instructions
Slowly caramelize onions in butter and olive oil. Add garlic and deglaze with wine. Stir in broth, herbs, and simmer for 20 minutes. Ladle into bowls, top with toasted bread and cheese, then broil until bubbly.
Notes
Make it vegetarian with vegetable broth or use a slow cooker for convenience. Top with a blend of cheeses for an extra creamy crust.
