Step-by-Step: How I Make Them

Here’s how I assemble these delicious little salmon bites in my kitchen:

  1. Prepare the Base:
Choose your foundation cucumber slices for freshness, toasted baguette rounds for crunch, or sturdy crackers for convenience. I often mix and match to give guests variety.
  2. Make the Creamy Spread:
In a small bowl, blend cream cheese, a squeeze of lemon juice, a bit of lemon zest, chopped dill, salt, and pepper. If you like heat, add a touch of horseradish or Dijon mustard for depth.
  3. Assemble the Bites:
Spread a thin layer of the cream cheese mixture on your chosen base. Gently fold or roll small pieces of smoked salmon on top.
  4. Garnish and Serve:
Finish with a sprig of dill, a couple of capers, and an extra pinch of lemon zest. Sometimes, I add microgreens for color and freshness.
  5. Serve Cold:
Keep the bites chilled until ready to serve. The coolness enhances the flavor and texture of the smoked salmon.

Tip: If you’re preparing these ahead for a party, assemble just before serving to keep the base crisp. For a warm twist, make crispy salmon bites on your grill, then top with the same garnishes for an elevated salmon dinner recipe idea.

  • Blackstone Salmon Bites: Grill small cubes of fresh salmon with olive oil and seasoning on your Blackstone grill until golden and crisp. Serve them with the same dill cream cheese sauce as a warm appetizer.
  • Keto-Friendly Option: Swap crackers for cucumber rounds or even small slices of avocado for a low-carb delight.
  • Smoked Salmon Bites with Avocado Mousse: Replace cream cheese with mashed avocado mixed with lime and garlic for a fresh, dairy-free variation.
  • Salmon Dinner Ideas: Serve larger portions of these bites on toast alongside a fresh green salad or roasted vegetables for a light seafood dinner.
